8 Home Remedies for Acne That You Can Find In Your Kitchen

There are at least eight home remedies for acne in your kitchen, which is pretty great since a lot of them are common enough to be found in your cupboard. Acne is no fun, especially if you’re prone to breakouts. We’ve all had our share of breakouts, but some people seem to draw the short stick and end up getting more than most people do.
Luckily, several remedies can be found right in your home. Before spending on over the counter products, you’ll want to be sure that you tried everything beforehand.
1. Lemon
This is one of the times when life gives you lemons that you can actually do something good with them. Aside from lemonades and setting up a lemonade stand, you can pull lemons from your fridge, and get a little bit of the juice on a cotton swab. Afterwards, you use the swab onto your acne. The acidic content of the lemon juice acts as an astringent and antibacterial agent to clear the acne. After this method, you can rinse it off your face with cold water.
2. Honey
You can use honey in two ways to help clear the acne off your skin. First, you can add it to your diet and treat the acne-causing infections from the inside of your body. Or, you can apply it directly on your face. Honey has a lot of properties that work well against acne:
- High sugar content and acidity prevents bacteria from multiplying
- Low levels of hydrogen peroxide disinfects skin
- Honey itself is an antiseptic
- Anti-inflammatory properties prevents acne from looking too red and swollen
- Honey is a humectant that helps keep your skin moisturized
When using honey, make sure that you use the raw kind and not the processed kind you can get from the supermarket. You can also choose to make a homemade mask with honey, some lemon juice, and the next item on this list.
3. Cinnamon
Ground cinnamon works best against acne when used with honey. Otherwise, there’s not much ways to put it on the affected area. Mix honey and ground cinnamon until it resembles a chocolate mixture, put it onto your face (or just on the acne-prone areas), and leave on for 5-10 minutes. You can also add a little lemon juice to make it more potent.
From personal experience, it’s going to feel itchy or give your face a slight burning sensation for the first few minutes. That should pass though, and if it gets too uncomfortable, you can rinse sooner. Rinse with warm water first before cold water to close up your pores.
4. Baking Soda
There’s quite a debate going on on whether or not baking soda is safe to use against acne. Primarily, it’s because skin is naturally acidic and baking soda is an alkaline. Using baking soda on your skin too frequently can damage it and disrupt the healthy balance. However, occasionally using it as an exfoliant can also serve as an anti-inflammatory and antiseptic agent to help keep the acne at bay.
If you do decide to use baking soda, keep it to a minimum. Don’t keep on the mask for longer than 10 minutes, once a week should be enough, and make sure to use a moisturizer immediately afterwards.
5. Green Tea
Green tea can be put on your acne, and you can drink green tea to help your body reject acne. The two things done together can also make it so much easier for you to get rid of the acne that you have been dealing with. The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of green tea are effective against acne.
If green tea is not something that you’re particularly fond of, you can put some honey or lemon in it to make it more palatable and effective. You can also cut open a soaked green tea bag, add some honey to the contents to make a paste, and apply it onto your face. Leave this mask on for about 20 minutes then rinse off.
6. Mint
This acne home remedy is as natural as they could get. Mint oil is very powerful, and its salicylic acid content can help get rid of the acne pretty fast. Mint leaves are great for garnishing, and you probably already have a pot of the herb in your home. All you need to do is thoroughly wash and crush some mint leaves, mix them with rosewater or honey to make a paste, and apply it onto your face.
7. Apple Cider Vinegar
Some people say that you should drink a shot of apple cider vinegar every day anyways, and applying a mixture of it and water topically is also an effective acne remedy. This is a simple way to treat it directly, and it helps you make sure that you have something that is going to help you feel better about the acne on your face. It helps remove dirt and oil on your face and restores the natural acidity of your skin.
8.Any Acidic Fruits
To round up these home remedies for acne, any acidic fruits that you have in the kitchen can give you juice that you can use, and you also have to be sure that you are going to have more that you can eat. It is going to be very easy for you to take care of your face when you have the fruits ready to eat, and you can use their juices just like you would if you were going to use lemon, apple cider, or mint on your face.
